The goal of this project was to redesign the OpenCPN interface in collaboration with Deeprey, transforming it into a more intuitive, modern, and engaging user experience. This involves evaluating the current navigation flow, enhancing visual clarity, and implementing a cohesive UI system that improves usability for both new and experienced boaters. By focusing on streamlined interactions, updated visual design, and user-centered improvements, the final outcome will elevate the product’s overall look and feel but also strengthen its value, making it more appealing, efficient, and boater-friendly.
I built a comprehensive design system from the ground up, defining and standardising key variables such as spacing, border radius, colour palettes, and component scope. This system ensures consistency across all UI elements, improves scalability, and streamlines the design-to-development workflow.
Everything in the proposal was delivered on time, and the outcome evolved from a web-based tool to a multifunctional display (MFD) utilizing gestures, exactly as the client envisioned. Please see the case study for more details on this project.
